Although the title doesn't give a great deal away, this website is a serious labour of love. The
site is broken into three main sections of interest for all things italianesque. The first section, Lacus Curtius, is
an enormous resource focusing on Roman antiquity - for anyone wishing to delve into the Roman Empire head first, this section is a
joy. The second section is the Gazetteer of Italy, in which Mr Thayer concentrates on the churches and frescoes, etc. of
Italy. My favourite section, however, is the 'Diary' section, which basically chronicles his travels through Italy gathering
the information which forms the backbone of the Gazetteer section. Wherever you choose to go on this website there
are wonders to behold, but beware - it is enormous, containing as it does thousands of pages and images. Well worth
a visit or two.
